Moving into moving images, with new jewelry videos

We've been trying to find a way to improve on the basic jewelry shots we do for all of the jewelry designers and retailers we work with. Trying to show the sparkle and shine of jewelry in a still photograph has always been the biggest challenge to our work. With increasing bandwidth for videos online, a moving image seems to be the obvious choice for innovating our work. The shine, and total description of the object, gained from a moving image spin is fantastic. You can see larger videos here:

We're hoping to make a lot more of these videos for our clients in the near future. Stay tuned for more.

So I found this bug in our studio...

Just kidding. This beetle is from one of our favorite stores in Soho: Evolution. They have all sorts of cool things from the natural world. You can see more of the wonders they have on their website: theevolutionstore.com

Got my hands on a resin human skull (couldn't afford the real thing and too scared to dig one up).

Channeling the Master Part II

I collaborated with the food stylist Victoria Escalle again over the past two days. We share a common interest in art history, and had an amazing time making these photos. We plan on collaborating again in a month and hopefully making even more photos in this style.

Steve and Lauren are Getting Married

I'm getting married to my fiance Lauren, this spring! Here is our save the date announcement. Seeing as I'm a jewelry photographer I shot the ring image myself. The ring in the picture is Lauren's actual engagement ring, made by Mimi So Jewelry.

Jewelry Photography shoot for David Alan jewelry

We recently did a shoot of some rings for jeweler David Alan. Here are some of the shots. I think the green diamond ring is quite an exceptional piece of jewelry.

Channeling The Masters

I thought it would be a cool project to emulate Dutch/Flemish still life painting though photography. Mostly, I wanted to experiment with making a photograph look like a painting from 400 years ago.  A great food stylist named Victoria Escalle baked all the cookies for the first shot, and helped style.

Watch Photography - Jewelry Animation

I was playing around with some of the images from our Ritmo Mundo shoot, and made this rough animation. I think there's some potential here.

Screw You

I think the title of this post pretty much speaks for itself. We've been taking a break from jewelry and product photography to try and make some new test work. Here's a shot we made recently. It's from a series of kind of play on words. I'm not sure what we're going to call them (idioms, brainteasers?), but we have a collection that I hope to send out as promos, once our new website is up.

Jewelry shoot for Ritmo Mundo Watches

Finished our first shoot with Ritmo Mundo watches yesterday. I think the images turned out excellent. Will upload finalized retouched images when they are available.

Fruit Slices - Food Photography Shoot

We did a food photography, test shoot of some fruit slices a while back. I had meant to upload them right away, but caught up in some other photography projects. Here they are: kiwi, grapefruit, and dragonfruit. Yum!
