Holidays

In the past few months since we moved to our new space at 64 West 48th, we have constantly been thinking up new ideas to make our space welcoming not only to us, but to our friends and clients.  New storage units to organize the clutter?  Check.  New coffee table?  Check.  Credenza, kitchenette?  Check and check.  And we're just getting started.  We're really excited to see our space develop and hope that over time both our friends and clients--who often become one in the same--will share our excitement.

So in light of the holidays we're sharing the space with the people who have made 2012 worthwhile.  Some Christmas lights, food, drinks, and good company go a long way.  Here's to 2013.  We'll see you on the other side of the New Year.

Happy holidays,

-David, Steve, Andrea, Seth, Sylvana, and Pixel.

Harper's Bazaar: November 2012

If you have November's issue of Harper's Bazaar handy, flip through it and check out this ad that we shot for local jewelers on 46th street, Spark Creations.  We first met up with the two brothers who run the company at the end of August just before our big move to 48th street.  We got great feedback on the image from the employees at the company, who particularly fell in love with our rendition of their opal One-of-a-Kind necklace.

Once you're done taking a gander at Spark, flip through it again and find an ad that we shot for Carelle as well.  Not bad for one issue, right?  We're happy that our clients not only enjoyed their images, but also considered them worthy enough to feature them as a printed ad in Harper's Bazaar.  We'll proudly be filing away this issue alongside our issues of Long Island Pulse, Wynn, and Town and Country.

Baby steps...

Haven't seen our new space on 48th street yet?  I snuck this picture earlier.  It's a quiet day here before we take a mini break for the Thanksgiving holiday.  That's Steve silhouetted against the computer screen, hard at work retouching a pink sapphire ring.

And here we have our new shelves that just came in last week!  We put them together yesterday and found a new home for a bunch of previously displaced items.  (The move and subsequent busy schedule had prevented us from totally settling in at the start.)  Pretty boring, I know, but the shelves really do make all the difference.  Our space feels that much more organized, and now we know just where our paper towels, envelopes, and espresso capsules are located.  Crucial stuff.

We'll be making some big strides towards personalizing our space in the coming months.  There is further excitement in the realm of shelving units, as well as consideration for a kitchen space, hanging artwork for our expansive white walls, and perhaps some plants to soak up the indirect sunlight that likes to hazily make its way through our large windows.

As mundane as shelving units are, you have to admit that there is something refreshing about starting over in a new space.  We've essentially got a blank canvas on our hands, and now we get to mold it into something we've envisioned for quite a while.  Yeah, the individual steps can seem pretty lame, but ultimately we imagine that the holistic manifestation of all these baby steps will be pretty grand.

Antfarm as a Social Butterfly

Beyond the constant shooting and retouching happening here at our brand new location in the Diamond District, we here at Antfarm have decided to extend our feelers beyond the walls of the studio.  Of course you are probably familiar with our website, but if not, have a look at it here.  For you socialites out there eager to connect in a more interactive manner, we have added a Facebook page, Twitter, updated our LinkedIn Company Page, and added a Pinterest account.  Like, Follow, Re-tweet, Connect, Pin--all different names for the same action of inter-action.  We're mighty friendly here at Antfarm, so we figured, why not poke our heads out into the virtual world and make friends there?

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Sincerely,

The Antfarm team.

Behind the Scenes and Other News

http://vimeo.com/50179036

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes here at the Antfarm studio?  The final images are just the refined result of countless exposures and meticulous attention to light, color, and composition.  Take a look at the link above and see photographers Steve and David at work during the Lani Vincoli shoot a few weeks ago.  Many thanks to Rudy Duboue for documenting the process so skillfully!

In other news, we have a recently updated Facebook Page and Twitter account.  Feel free to "Like" us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter.  Tweet @AntfarmPhoto if you're feeling particularly vocal.

We Moved!

We moved!  We are now in our new space 48th St. between 5th & 6th Ave.  Besides being in a much larger space, it is great being right in the diamond district for our clients.  The view of Rockefeller Center is pretty great as well.  Mostly I really love having norther exposure because I can leave the windows open all day when I'm shooting and don't have to worry about direct sun.
